Major D K Zarekar
Major D.K. Zarekar (Veteran), SSM “SURAKSHA” was the Chief Executive Director of Tulsi Eye Hospital in Nashik from 2003 to March 2023. Prior to this, he served as National Coordinator and Foundation Director for the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, a non-governmental organisation focused on community development projects in the Federal Republic of Nigeria (West Africa), for 12 years. Prior to that, while working in education, he was commissioned in the Indian Territorial Army in 1982 and promoted to Second Lieutenant after clearing numerous acid tests across India. In 1991, he retired as Major from the 116th Infantry Battalion (T.A) Para, Deolali, a Parachute Regiment affiliate.
Major Zarekar was given the “Special Service Medal with Claps” by the Indian government for his distinguished service in the Territorial Army. On Teachers Day 1983, the Lions Club of Nashik-Satpur recognised him as an “Ideal Teacher”. From 2014 to 2016, the District Legal Services Authority named him as a Special Appointee to the Lok-Adalat Panel.
He was honoured by the Maharashtra Rajya Sainik Board in 1980, 1981, and 1982 for his exceptional efforts in generating funds for Flag Day. Since 1999, Major Zarekar has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Nashik-Ambad, which is the world’s first club with all Paul Harris Fellows. He holds M.Ed., LLB, and DSW degrees.
